From 22 to 24 November 2023, the Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana hosted the 2nd Open Days of Slovenian Cancer screening programmes, co-organised by the three Slovenian screening programmes ZORA, DORA and Svit, the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Public Health, the EU-TOPIA-EAST project and the WHO Regional Office for Europe. The event took place after the first workshop of the EU-TOPIA-EAST project in Bled.
Slovenian screening programmes are recognised in Europe for their good organisation, implementation of evidence-based screening policies in practice and public health outcomes. Following the success of last year's Open Days, many countries from the Eastern European region have expressed interest in visiting and learning more about the structure and operations of the Slovenian programmes.
The 2nd Slovenian Cancer Screening Open Days were attended by 65 foreign experts in the field of screening, mainly programme managers, but also researchers and policymakers. The event aimed to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience and to foster communication between various stakeholders from Eastern European countries and experts from Western Europe.
The event consisted of 2 parts, on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, a presentation of all three programmes took place at the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana. Subsequently, participants learned about the practical and day-to-day operational aspects of the screening programmes during the site visits that took place on Thursday and Friday 23 and 24 November 2023.
