Assist. Prof. Urška Ivanuš, Head of the national cervical cancer screening programme ZORA, was invited to Moldova to present the Slovenian screening policy and the ZORA programme. The conference, which took place in early July, focused on establishing effective cervical cancer screening in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania.
In these three countries, cervical cancer is still one of the most frequent cancers in women, while in Slovenia it is almost eliminated thanks to an effective screening programme. Dr. Diana Valuta, the head of screening in Moldova, was encouraged to invite Dr. Ivanuš by the success of ZORA. The screening programme in Moldova is also supported by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund.
During the conference, Dr. Urška Ivanuš shared her extensive experience and knowledge about the effective screening programme in Slovenia. Special attention was paid to the situation in Ukraine, where the war situation makes the fight against cervical cancer even more difficult. In Ukraine, more women die every day from cervical cancer than from war.
Dr. Urška Ivanuš stressed the importance of international cooperation and exchange of experiences to improve women's health worldwide. Her expertise has been instrumental in providing inspiration and guidance for improving screening programmes in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania. Dr. Diana Valuta expressed her gratitude to Dr. Urška Ivanuš, stating: "On behalf of our team and the entire colposcopy community in Moldova, I would like to sincerely thank you for your valuable contribution as a speaker and guest. Your expertise and insights greatly enriched our conference, and we continue to receive a lot of positive feedback from colleagues."
