Colposcopy “Train-the-Trainer” Course within the EUCanScreen Project

On 4 December 2025, a “Train-the-Trainer” course in Colposcopy, Diagnostics, and Treatment was held at the Gynaecology Clinic in Ljubljana, organised by Institute of Oncology, DP ZORA. This train-the-trainer course is part of the EU-supported joint action project EUCanScreen, in which the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana also participates. 

The aim of this course is to train ambassadors in various countries to implement structured colposcopy training within their own regions. The course is designed to enhance the teaching and feedback skills, focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of colposcopy training. In 2025 course was held at three locations: on 13th September in Oslo, on 31th October in Riga, and on 4th December in Ljubljana.

Under the mentorship of the lead mentors Ameli Trope (Norway), Špela Smrkolj (University Medical Centre Ljubljana) and Luka Roškar (General Hospital Murska Sobota), participants reviewed the fundamentals of colposcopy as well as key principles of feedback delivery and teaching. Emphasis was placed on hands-on practice, interactive group work and real-life case examples to further develop skills in providing feedback and evaluation.

The remaining mentors, who also shared their expertise and actively participated in the course, were: Jure Klanjšček (Šempeter pri Novi Gorici General Hospital), Andraž Dovnik (University Medical Centre Maribor), Luka Kovač (University Medical Centre Ljubljana), Andrej Cokan (University Medical Centre Maribor), Pepita Taneska (University Medical Centre Ljubljana) and Vid Janša (University Medical Centre Ljubljana).

The course was attended by 10 colposcopists from Croatia, Romania and Slovenia. Participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the Train-the-Trainer course and reported taking home numerous useful techniques and insights that, in their view, can be applied not only in their professional work but also in everyday life.
